One Act Theatre “Best Of” opens February 5th

Venture Theatre’s One-Act Theatre Festival returns for a fifth year to delight audiences once again with another eclectic anthology of comedy, drama and romance. This year will be a retrospective of some of the top scenes and short plays from the first four-plus seasons in the history of Venture Theatre. This “best of” show runs four weekends.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students.

BREAKING NEWS! ComedyCity is moving to the Sports Corner

Ok. We’re really truly 100% for sure on this one… seriously, stop snickering.

As of March 1st, 2010, The Sports Corner in downtown De Pere will be our new permanent home. The first shows at the new venue, will be Friday & Saturday, March 5th & 6th.

Pretty much everything you know and love about our shows - the format, the players, the showtimes, the prices and the family-freindly hilarity - will stay the same. Just the place we’re doing them will change. And it’s not really that big of a change - we’re only moving about three blocks or so.

The address of the new venue is 500 Grant Street, De Pere, WI 54115 on the corner of 5th & Grant, next to the Nicolet Restaurant.

So, after March 1st, don’t go to the old theatre because you’re going to be there all alone.

Please Note: We’re moving to the Sports Corner, not to be confused with Coaches Corner off of highway 41.

Calling the show “Freewheeling fun” and “Fresh and Original,” Press-Gazette theatre critic Warren Gerds gave “The Big Idea” three-and-a-half stars.

Green Bay Press-Gazette theatre critic Warren Gerds gave the first show on the 2009/10 season 4 stars out of 4! He called the show “a lovable adventure.”

About the cast of “The Movie Game,” he says “the players, who have honed skills at Comedy-City next door and under the same roof, are accustomed to reaching to the beyond in developing characters.”

“The Movie Game” runs Fridays & Saturdays, September 18-October 10 at 8pm. Click here for info on how to make reservations.

“The Movie Game,” the first show on the 2009/10 Venture Theatre season, is an original romantic comedy about Jack Goldberg, an obsessive movie lover who can’t keep a job and still lives with his parents. Things spiral out of control when his shrink advises him to play the leading man in the movie of his life.

The play was written by Adam Hummel, an Eau Claire native, while he was a student at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Hummel won the Mark Twain Award for Comic Playwriting at the American College Theatre Festival in 2001 for this play.

The cast features a mix of Venture veterans and newcomers including: Tony Mayer, Scott Roemaat, Gary Radke, Sarah Goltz, Kristen Barbiaux, Marty Chapman, Karen Meyer, Ken Goltz and Maria Bartholdi (who is also directing the production).

When – 8:00 pm every Friday & Saturday, September 18th through October 10th
- Fridays – September 18, 25, October 2, 9
- Saturdays – September 19, 26, October 3, 10
