Get Down(sized) (Venture Theatre of De Pere, WI). Three desks, some office equipment, a box of donuts, five actors and nary a word spoken from the stage. But it’s not arch mime. It’s true silent acting. When words are needed, they come from a tape and are lip-synced by the actors. By the end of 40 minutes, the corporate culture and office politics have been flayed, belayed and thoroughly lampooned. Mike Eserkaln’s losing struggle to resist the temptation of a glazed donut was a bit of absolutely inspired lunacy.

Maybe you’re just looking for entertainment. Try “Get Down(sized)!,” a kind of updated “Modern Times” adapted to corporate pod culture, where conflicts are resolved through stapler wars, masculinity pumped up in unexpected ways and Buster Keatonesque physical comedy reigns.- Indianapolis Star 8/26/05

Get Down(sized)! 4.5 Stars (out of 5)Venture Theatre. A staggeringly funny look at corporate America … mostly without words. This group from De Pere, Wisc., revels in all things crazy about the corporate workplace, from sexual harassment graphs to the lure of the doughnut. Some of the best skits involved a veritable symphony on touchtone phones, a war with office implements in slow motion, “natural male enhancement” featuring small sports balls and some frightfully funny dancing men, the attack of the tape gun and the overthrow of the boss and the subsequent building of the barricade, à la Les Mis. Great stuff here…
